This year’s event will continue
to raise funds to help support the Homes for Heroes Project in Rockland County,
which has begun construction on two buildings on the grounds of Camp Shanks that
will provide rental units for honorably discharged disabled and displaced
veterans.
The Dennis P. McHugh
Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was formed to honor our beloved
fallen firefighter Dennis P. McHugh (Engine 22 Ladder 13), who was among the
more than 2,800 brave rescue workers and civilians who perished as a result of
the attacks on the World Trade Center.
The foundation first focused its efforts by pledging $500,000 to the
construction of a new home for a local library. Construction on the Dennis P.
McHugh Piermont Public Library began in Spring of 2004 and was completed and
officially opened March 10, 2007. Throughout the years the Foundation has
supported local Rockland County organizations and community members in need and
will continue to do so with your help and support.

Construction of the Dennis P.

officially opened March 10, 2007.
In addition to naming the new building for Dennis McHugh, a memorial was placed
within the library to honor all those lost on September 11th. Following the
tragic events of that day, communities and people came together to support one
another and provide strength to each other and to those who were directly
affected.
The foundation hopes that the new library will provide a symbol to
that collective spirit and the positive power of community strength to overcome
adversity.
The foundation was established by Dennis P. McHugh's family and friends to ensure
that his legacy lives on in as dignified a fashion as he lived his life. The
foundation chose the library as its project because Dennis was a firm believer
in the importance of education and regularly read to his children and took his
oldest daughter to the library as part of their routine.
Dennis’ wife Una McHugh hopes that through this project their children will see
that "Dennis’ spirit will continue to add happiness and strength to the
community where he grew up and started his own family."
The foundation is a recognized nonprofit public charity that has received its
501(c)(3) status, consequently all donations are tax deductible. Anyone
interested in viewing any of the supporting documentation regarding the
foundation should feel free to contact us, we will gladly oblige.
More events are being planned
to help fund other
community projects so be sure to log on occasionally or
